Request Police Public Records
The California Public Records Act provides the public with important rights to obtain access to records held by public agencies in the State. Every person has a right to inspect and obtain a of copy public records, except as provided for by law. You may make a public record request related to Walnut Creek Police Department records.

For information not related to the links above, you may submit a Police public records request. To help staff to respond to your request, please include:
- The date range for the records requested
- Description of records requested

3. We will contact you
Once your Public Records Request has been received and you will receive a confirmation email. The typical timeline for the City to make a determination of available records is 10 calendar days from the date of receipt of the request. You will also be notified within 10 days if more time is needed to meet your request or if your request cannot be granted. See California Legislative Code Sections 7920 to 7931 for more information.

Fees for copies of public records
The California Public Records Act provides that a fee may be charged to cover the direct costs incurred in making copies of records or information requested. A fee of $0.10 per page will be charged for photocopies. This fee may be waived at the City’s sole discretion for requests totaling fewer than 50 pages.
Exemptions
The underlying purpose of the California Public Records Act is to assure broad access to public records. Any grounds for denying access to public records must be found in the enumerated exemptions of the California Public Records Act. Many of the exemptions are very specific and pertain to particular types of public records such as certain personnel or medical records.
