Parking

The police department enforces parking rules throughout the downtown and other parts of Walnut Creek. Walnut Creek’s parking rules only apply within the City limits. Parking rules can vary from city to city.

Parking Meters

Parking meters are enforced every day of the week, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. except on these holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Presidents' Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Parking meter holidays apply only to public street meters, including the library parking lot and other parking lots owned by the City. They do not apply to public parking garages or private lots or garages.

Regulations for red zones, handicapped accessible zones and permit parking zones apply every day, including holidays.

Disabled Placards

If you have a valid disabled person placard, you may park in the following locations:

  • Disabled person parking spaces
  • Metered zones without paying
  • Green zones without restrictions to time limits
  • Streets where preferential parking privileges are given to residents and merchants

You may not park in these locations:

  • Red zone
  • Yellow zone
  • White zone
  • Tow away zone
  • Any area crosshatched next to a disabled person parking spaces

Misuse of Disabled Placards

Misuse of a disabled placard is a misdemeanor (section 4461 CVC). It can result in cancellation or revocation of the placard, parking privileges and/or fines.

These actions are considered misuse of disabled placards:

  • Displaying the placard unless the disabled owner is being transported
  • Displaying a placard that has been canceled or revoked
  • Loaning your placard to anyone, including family members
